Whitney Tates
Whitney Tates (b. 1990) is a professional muralist and fine artist based in Shreveport, Louisiana. A graduate of Centenary College of Louisiana, they earned a B.A. in Studio Art in 2013 and have since established a presence across Louisiana and Texas, with their work displayed in public and private collections.
Recognized for their artistic contributions, Whitney has been awarded several prestigious grants, including the National Performance Network’s Take Notice Fund (2021) and the National Endowment for the Arts American Rescue Plan (2022).
Their work is best described as surreal and compelling, offering a deeply personal lens into the experiences of dissociation and derealization, common symptoms of anxiety and depression. Through painting, Whitney communicates emotions that words often fail to capture, creating visual dialogues that explore longing, escapism, and universal human connection. Their art is both an expression of self and an invitation for viewers to engage in their own introspective journeys, using each piece as a tool for healing and discovery.
