Leah McCall

McCall, Leah

Leah Sakovich- McCall has been creating art since childhood, guided by her late uncle, Stanley Sakovich, a New Orleans artist known for teaching and designing floats for Carnival and Mardi Gras. Under his early instruction, Leah discovered a love for drawing and color, but she later set art aside to pursue a career in psychology as an assessment counselor.

In 1994, her life was forever changed when her fiancé was tragically killed. Struggling with grief, she eventually found solace in painting while living in Baton Rouge. Transforming her pain into art, she sold nearly all of her early works, keeping just one as a reminder of her journey. Leah later earned an M.A. in Education and spent seven years teaching in North Louisiana. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she found herself physically and emotionally exhausted, ultimately facing a health crisis that forced her to reassess her path.

She turned back to art, this time embracing acrylics. In 2022, she entered her first festival—the Red River Revel—and was immediately accepted, launching her into a whirlwind of painting, commissions, and sharing her story with others. Deeply influenced by spiritual themes, her work reflects the personal and transformative power of creativity. Leah now lives in Bossier City with her husband, William McCall, continuing to explore and expand her artistic journey.
