Karen Harrington, a Shreveport-based artist, creates contemporary, colorful works that explore themes of music, southern life, dance, floral and figurative scenes, Louisiana birds, landscapes, and abstracts. Primarily working with water media techniques, Karen uses watercolor, dyes, and acrylics on both canvas and watercolor paper. With over 25 years of experience, Karen is a signature member of both the Louisiana Watercolor Society and the Southwestern Watercolor Society, as well as a member of several local art groups.

Karen has been recognized for her artistic achievements over the years, including being selected as the mural artist for the Camp Forbing Kroger Marketplace, where she created a 5′ x 12′ mural for the store. She has received numerous awards, such as the Savoir Faire/Raphael Award at the 2016 Southwestern Watercolor Society show for her painting “Little Blue Heron,” and the Edgar Whitney Award in 2011 for “Oysters Southern Style.” In 2010, her work “Oysters Southern Style” earned the Memorial Award at the Louisiana Watercolor International Exhibition in New Orleans, securing her signature status with the Louisiana Watercolor Society. Her work has also been featured in the book The New Creative Artist by Nita Leland, where her pieces “The Look” and “Dancing Violins” were published.

Karen’s artistic contributions have been consistently recognized, and she continues to be a vibrant force in the local art community.
